Sewage spill cleaned-up in Porepunkah
7 May 2020
North East Water staff have cleaned up a small sewage spill caused by an asset failure at a sewage pump station in Porepunkah.
Some of the leaked wastewater entered the nearby Ovens River at Nicholson Street on Thursday 7 May 2020.
Acting Executive Operations, Trent Newton, said the Environment Protection Authority has been notified of the spill, which was less than a thousand litres.
"The issue at the pump station has been rectified and we have cleaned and disinfected the nearby area", Mr Newton said.
“Sampling of the river water has been conducted and the test results will be due within the next 24 hours.
“We are advising people to avoid the area and abide by nearby signage.”
