Sewage spill cleaned-up in Killara
31 July 2020
North East Water staff have cleaned up a sewage spill caused by wet wipes blocking a sewer pump station in Killara.
The spilt wastewater entered a nearby unnamed creek near Riverside Drive on Friday 31 July 2020.
Executive Operations, John Day, said the Environment Protection Authority has been notified of the spill.
"The blockage at the pump station has now been rectified, with our operations team removing a large amount of wet wipes", Mr Day said.
“We have also cleaned and disinfected at the spill location.
“Sampling of the creek water has been conducted to determine any impacts to the creek.
“We are advising people to avoid the area and abide by nearby signage.”
Mr Day added, “People should remember, that only the 3P’s should go down the loo – pee, poo and (toilet) paper.”
“Everything else, including wet wipes, should be put in the bin.”
