Our commitments to the United Nations's sustainable development goals.

North East Water has committed to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals and is embracing a once in a generation opportunity to be regional leaders in substantially contributing to addressing global challenges.

Why

Our purpose at North East Water is closely aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals. Through the services we provide to our customers and communities, North East Water is well-positioned to indirectly contribute to all 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals. 

How

In 2019-20 North East Water will prioritise six of the 17 goals, with a view to maximising the Corporation’s contribution to the following global issues:

Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all 100% compliance with safe drinking water guidelines, 100% compliance with EPA guidelines for wastewater
Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation Capital program that supports growth and prosperity in the region, investment in digital solutions
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable Ensuring responsible land and water stewardship, IWM green spaces initiatives, sustainable water solutions
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns Review of procurement processes to remove social bias and investigate chain of supply, ensure responsible production, water conservation education
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts 3MW solar array to reduce carbon emissions, investigation of adaptation models, progress towards carbon reduction pledge
