High levels of blue-green algae have been detected in Lake Hume and Lake Mulwala. Red alert warnings for recreational users have been issued by Water NSW and Goulburn Murray Water respectively.
North East Water draws water at Lake Hume to supply treated water to Bellbridge. Water is drawn downstream of Lake Hume to supply treated water to Wodonga, Baranduda, Barnawartha, Bonegilla, Chiltern, Ebden, Kiewa, Killara, Springhurst and Tangambalanga. Water is drawn downstream of Lake Hume to supply treated water to Wahgunyah and Rutherglen. Water is drawn from Lake Mulwala to supply treated water to Yarrawonga and then to Bundalong, Tungamah, St James, Devenish and Goorambat. All of these water treatment plants are effective in removing the algae and any associated toxins. Treated drinking water is safe to consume.
