Exciting opportunity for a growth focused Senior Planning Engineer to support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure in our region!
North East Water provides water and sewage services to an estimated population of 120,000 people in 39 towns in north-east Victoria across an area of 20,000 square kilometres. We operate 21 water treatment facilities and 22 wastewater treatment plants that service most towns across the region. Over 200 full time equivalent staff are employed at our centres surrounding Wodonga, Wangaratta, Benalla, Yarrawonga, Corryong, Mount Beauty and Myrtleford. North East Water is currently embarking on a large capital program and seeking to grow and maintain our services to the community.
The Senior Water & Wastewater Planning Engineer provides engineering analysis and strategic advice to ensure our water and wastewater services are reliable, resilient and compliant now and into the future.
This role is an exciting opportunity to lead and provide technical oversight of a variety of short, medium and long-term plans including our 50-year master plans for towns experiencing growth.
This role is a full-time, ongoing opportunity, including a monthly RDO and flexible work options.
Key Responsibilities
- Providing professional engineering advice while maintaining high standards and ethics.
- Leading the delivery of short, medium, and long-term plans for water and wastewater to progress conceptual ideas into infrastructure solutions.
- Overseeing and providing technical review of professional engineering services contracts which are undertaking planning and design, including major water supply augmentations, master plans, network augmentations and treatment plant upgrades.
- Contributing to the analysis of development inquiries, including leading or supporting team members in examining the impact of proposed development on the water and wastewater network hydraulics and treatment plants, and formulating recommendations.
- Contributing to internal and external reporting obligations.
- Assessing the impact of forecasted population growth, policy, regulatory and other changes to inform future infrastructure investment needs.

Key Selection Criteria
To be in consideration for this position please address in your application how you meet the following key selection criteria:
- Ability to manage competing demands and requests, set priorities and plan and organise work to ensure projects, programs and services are delivered within agreed standards, budgets and timeframes.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills with experience writing technical reports and the ability to build and manage stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated experience undertaking engineering analysis and providing advice on proposed infrastructure works.
- Knowledge and experience in water and wastewater infrastructure.
- A tertiary engineering qualification recognised by Engineers Australia in a discipline relevant to the role.
