Wastewater spill at Bellbridge

North East Water is managing a wastewater spill in Bellbridge that took place on the morning of Wednesday, 9 August.
Following a blockage due to tree roots in the sewer main, the spill occurred from a manhole at the rear of 21 Hillcrest Avenue and spilt over into the neighbouring paddock, behind the property.
The spill was mostly backwash water from nearby Bellbridge Water Treatment Plant. Repair works to remove the blockage have been completed and the spill has ceased.
The Environment Protection Authority has been notified. To understand the impact to the waterway, water sampling of the farm dam is being undertaken. Precautionary sampling of the Hume Weir has also been undertaken to confirm there is no impact.
