Sewage spill in Beechworth

North East Water has undertaken works to cease the sewage spill in Beechworth that occurred on Friday 3 July 2026.
As a result of the recent heavy rainfall event, there was an offsite release from Beechwrth Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) today. Rainfall infiltration into the sewer network resulted in high inflows to the WWTP, with a section of pipework onsite exceeding capacity and overflowing. A small volume of the spill is likely to have reached Spring Creek with dilution from other stormwater runoff. Spring Creek is currently experiencing high flows. Works have been undertaken to cease the spill, and sampling completed to determine if there has been any impact on the waterway.
The Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has been notified.
