Heavy rain leads to sewer spills in Wangaratta

North East Water is responding to several sewer spills in Wangaratta following heavy rain across the region on 9 August 2026.
Stormwater entering the sewer network caused spills at Rattray Avenue, Vincent Road, Swan Street and Bronmar Street, with flows reaching nearby One Mile Creek.
In major storm events, parts of the sewer system are designed to overflow to help prevent sewage backing up into connected properties.
Water sampling and creek monitoring will continue over the coming days to assess any impacts.
North East Water has notified the Environment Protection Authority. Warning signs and barricades have also been installed where required.
As a precaution, people are advised to avoid contact with creek water in the affected areas for several days.
