Heavy rain leads to sewer spills in Wangaratta

North East Water is responding to two sewer spills in Wangaratta following recent heavy rain across the region on 2 to 3 October 2026.
Stormwater entering the sewer network, combined with a pipe blockage at a pump station, caused spills on Rattray Avenue and Vincent Road, with flows reaching nearby One Mile Creek.
In major storm events, parts of the sewer system are designed to overflow to help prevent sewage backing up into connected properties.
Water sampling and creek monitoring will continue over the coming days to assess any impacts.
Warning signs have also been installed where appropriate. As a precaution, people are advised to avoid contact with creek water in the affected areas for several days.
North East Water has notified the Environment Protection Authority.
