The Senior Operations & Systems Officer plays a vital role in ensuring the seamless and efficient operations of our 18 lagoon-based wastewater treatment systems while supporting the lagoon wastewater treatment team.
Our lagoon-based wastewater treatment plants are spread throughout the North East region. This is an exciting opportunity to get out and about in the beautiful north east region and gain exposure across our 18 lagoon-based wastewater treatment plants.

This role is a full-time, ongoing opportunity, including a monthly RDO and flexible work options. The general hours of work are between 7am and 4:30pm and once deemed competent, you will be required to participate in a seven-day on call roster every 4 weeks which operates from a Tuesday until the following Tuesday.
Key Responsibilities
- Lagoon based wastewater treatment monitoring & maintenance: Ensure smooth operations by actively participating in and overseeing critical operational tasks, addressing issues promptly to maintain service quality.
- Safety Protocols: Adhere to OH&S standards, ensuring that both the team and the public remain protected during lagoon-based wastewater treatment activities.
- Work within, assist, promote and continually develop the organisation’s Environmental Management System, Safety Management System and the Risk Management System.
- Data Management: Utilise AMIS and SCADA systems to gather, assess, and report on essential operational data, driving efficiency and ensuring informed decision-making.
- System Optimisation: Regularly evaluate the performance and functionality of lagoon wastewater treatment processes, AMIS and SCADA systems, liaising with internal teams to implement system upgrades or enhancements as required.
- Team Support & Training: Provide guidance, mentoring, and training to fellow operators, particularly in the realms of AMIS and SCADA system operations.
- Support to the Team Leader: Act as a primary point of assistance to the Team Leader Lagoon Wastewater Treatment in supporting the lagoon wastewater treatment team.
- Stakeholder Communication: Engage with stakeholders, including external customers and internal teams, to relay essential updates, plan works or gather feedback regarding operations.
- Emergency Responses: Support rapid response initiatives during emergencies or disruptions, leveraging expertise to minimize impact and achieve swift recovery.
- Operation, Inspections and Maintenance: Develop and maintain maintenance plans and support the execution of these plans with contractors and internal maintenance staff.
- Records and Reporting: Apply and carry out documented procedures outlined in the wastewater treatment guidelines. Accurately enter all lagoon wastewater treatment data into existing digital systems.
- Reuse & Irrigation: Support and collaborate with internal teams to meet objectives relating to the supply of reuse water and irrigation aligned with lagoon-based wastewater treatment sites.

Key Selection Criteria

- Ability to manage time, set priorities and deliver outcomes while guiding and supporting the team to achieve their priorities.
- Proficient computer literacy and skills with experience in AMIS and SCADA or the ability to learn new systems.
- Knowledge and/or understanding of water or wastewater treatment processes.
- Certificate III in wastewater treatment (or equivalent), or substantial experience in the water industry and demonstrated progress towards achieving these qualifications.
- Current driver’s licence (required).
