Privacy Statement for Employees

What information we collect

As an employee of North East Water, you may be asked to provide us with the following personal information:

  • Name
  • Home and postal address
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Date and country of birth
  • Age
  • Sex
  • Marital status
  • Driver’s licence number
  • Emergency contact information
  • Banking information
  • Tax File Number
  • Membership of a trade union
  • Superannuation details
  • Prior work experience
  • Evidence of licenses or certificates you hold
  • Identity as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.

During the course of your employment we may collect other personal information about you, including:

  • Police checks
  • Your opinion
  • Opinions about you from other people including referees and other employees
  • Other information related to your work performance
  • Recordings of yourself and others (such as photos and videos).

North East Water may collect health information about you during your recruitment process and during your employment.  The type of health information collected may depend upon the role you are seeking or performing at North East Water.  Health information collected could include:

  • Pre-employment health assessment summaries
  • Audiology test results 
  • Hazardous substance medical reports
  • Psychometric testing results.

How we collect this information

We may collect the types of information listed above during the initial recruitment process and throughout the duration of your employment with North East Water. The information may be collected by:

  • email 
  • telephone 
  • in person
  • fax 
  • hardcopy documents 
  • through online forms. 
  • We may also receive unsolicited information about you from other employees of North East Water or from external sources.

If you work at or visit a North East Water site that operates CCTV cameras, your image may be captured on CCTV footage and stored by North East Water.

North East Water on-call work vehicles have been fitted with global positioning system (“GPS”) trackers that collect information regarding the location of the vehicle and provide that information to North East Water.  If during your employment you drive on on-call work vehicle, then information about your location will be collected by North East Water.

Why and how we use this information

North East Water only collects personal information from you when it is for a purpose related to the performance of our functions and activities under the Water Act 1989, including for the purposes of your employment with North East Water.
North East Water will only use, and if necessary, disclose, your personal information for the main purpose for which it was collected, and any appropriate secondary purposes (as outlined in the PDP Act), such as where you have consented to the secondary use or disclosure or you would reasonably expect us to use or disclose the information.

Third Parties

To enable North East Water to perform its functions and activities under the Water Act 1989, we may need to make your information available to a third party, such as a contractor, other State and Federal Government agency or department, agent acting on behalf of North East Water or other statutory authorities (such as Water Corporations).
North East Water’s contractors are required to comply with the PDP Act. Where possible, North East Water will endeavour to ensure that other third parties follow similar standards and obligations to those required by North East Water under the PDP Act, and that they only use your information for the specific purpose and service they are providing to North East Water. 
At times, North East Water may be legally required to disclose personal information, for instance to the police, courts or other authorised organisations.

Security

North East Water aims to safeguard your information to the best of its abilities. Your personal information is stored in a secure location that can only be accessed by those persons who need to access it in order to fulfil their functions and activities in relation to your employment at North East Water. When no longer required by law, it will be securely destroyed.
