Five day community forum to plan for future prices

 10 November 2016

North East Water will be hosting a five day deliberative forum to hear the views and opinions of customers to help shape the future of water and wastewater services across the region.

A group of 40 community members will take part in the forum to be held over five days from 11 November to 3 December 2016.

Executive Manager Customer and Community, Ann Telford said the forum will have important input into the Corporation’s planning for the next five years.

“The group will have a say on the scale of investments we make, the pricing of services as well as other initiatives outside the Corporation’s usual scope,” Ms Telford said.

“Their recommendations will then be presented to the North East Water Board for consideration ahead of our pricing submission being presented to the Essential Services Commission. This submission determines prices we charge and the Corporation’s service requirements during 2018-23.”

Ms Telford added, “This type of collaborative engagement is a first for Corporation and it’s rare to see it undertaken outside of capital cities.

“The participants are aged 18 to over 65 and have been chosen from communities across the region. They were chosen by an independent company to gain a broad spectrum of community views without any bias.

“It will be an opportunity for the participants to learn about North East Water, provide advice and most importantly, be part of the decision making process.”

“Experts from both inside and outside the water industry will provide the group expertise across a wide range of subjects to help participants better understand North East Water’s services and also help inform their opinions and decisions.

“The experts will be presenting on topics such as pricing structures, service levels, communications, water security, environment and liveability."

Meetings will be held at North East Water’s on 11, 12, 19, 15 November and 3 December between 9.00am and 4.30pm.
