Heavy rain causes sewage spill in Wahgunyah

North East Water is managing a sewage spill in Wahgunyah following heavy rain in the area.
The spill occurred at Barkly Street on 30 January 2023 with wastewater entering a stormwater drain and nearby floodwaters from the Murray River.
Water sampling and monitoring of the floodwaters will continue over the next few days to understand the impact to the waterway.
Signage has been erected in the area and as a precaution we are advising people to avoid contact with the area until further notice.
The Environment Protection Authority has been notified of the spill.
