Tree roots cause sewage spill in Myrtleford
17 January 2023
North East Water staff have cleaned up a small sewage spill caused by tree roots that blocked a sewer main in Myrtleford.
The spill occurred at a sewer access point on O’Donnell Avenue and entered nearby a stormwater drain which flows to the nearby Happy Valley Creek.
The site has been flushed and disinfected, with water samples to be collected for analysis.
Signage and barricades have been erected at the spill site and along the creek, and as a precaution we are advising people to avoid contact with the area for several days.
The Environment Protection Authority has been notified of the spill.
