Sewage spill in Beechworth

North East Water crews are managing a sewage spill at the Beechworth Inlet structure.

The sewage system reached capacity due to heavy rainfall overnight on Wednesday 7 June into Thursday 8 June, resulting in a spill from the inlet structure at the end of Church Street, Beechworth.

North East Water crews will continue to monitor the spill to determine any impacts, as it has entered Spring Creek. The public is advised to avoid contact with Spring Creek over the next few days.

A project to upgrade the inlet structure, and the rising main connecting to the wastewater treatment plant, is expected to be completed within the next three months. This will prevent future spills from occurring in this area.

The Environtment Protection Authority (EPA) has been notified of the event.
