North East Water cleans up wastewater spill in West Wodonga
8 April 2021
North East Water is in the process of cleaning up a wastewater spill near the Hume Highway off-ramp at Melrose Drive in West Wodonga.
The leakage has come from a broken pipe which has led to wastewater entering a nearby storm water catchment dam.
Executive Operations, John Day, said the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) and North East Catchment Management Authority (NECMA) have been notified of the spill.
“We have repaired the affected pipe and are beginning a clean-up of the area”, Mr Day said.
“Water samples have been taken and sent for analysis with our main priority to restore the area in consultation with the EPA and NECMA.
“Due to the access limitations of the site, the clean-up is expected to take several days.
“We are asking members of the public to avoid the affected area until the clean-up is completed.”
