Treated recycled water released into Spring Creek at Beechworth
19 July 2021
Treated recycled water from the North East Water Wastewater Treatment Plant in Beechworth will be routinely released into Spring Creek commencing from Monday 19 July 2021.
Executive Operations, John Day, said the decision was required due to recent heavy rain in the region.
“Holding lagoons and discharge infrastructure have reached their full capacity during the recent wet weather”, Mr Day said.
“Over the short term we need to release some of the water into the creek to ensure that our dams do not overflow.”
Mr Day added, “The water being discharged has been fully treated and our monitoring program will be continued during the discharge.”
“We are working with our stakeholders during this process including, including EPA Victoria, North East Catchment Management Authority, Department of Health, Goulburn Murray Water and Indigo Shire.”
