Treated recycled water released into Broken River at Benalla
14 July 2022
Treated recycled water from the North East Water Wastewater Treatment Plant in Benalla is being routinely released into the Broken River after commencing on 14 July 2022.
Holding lagoons and discharge infrastructure at the plant have reached their full capacity following the recent wet weather.
The release is needed to ensure that our dams do not overflow and is likely to continue for several weeks.
The water being discharged has been fully treated and our monitoring program will take place throughout the discharge process.
We are working with our stakeholders during this process including, including EPA Victoria, Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority, Department of Environment, Land, Water & Planning, Goulburn Murray Water and Benalla Rural City.
