Sewage spill caused by fats and grease cleaned-up in Wangaratta
13 August 2021
North East Water staff have cleaned up a sewage spill caused by solidified fat that blocked a sewer main in Wangaratta.
The spill occurred on Vincent Road on Friday 13 August 2021 and entered the nearby One Mile Creek.
The blockage has now been rectified, with our operations team also flushing the spill location.
Barricades and warning signage has been installed, and people are advised to avoid the area around each spill site, as well as creek water.
The Environment Protection Authority has been notified of the spill, and our staff will be monitoring and sampling creek water over coming days.
North East Water would like to remind people that cooking fats and grease should always be placed in the bin and never be poured down the sink.
