Recruitment underway for new North East Water leader

19 August 2021

North East Water has begun the recruitment process for a new managing director.

The Corporation’s current leader Craig Heiner will leave the role at the end of November, closing out 30 years at the organisation and thirteen of those at the helm.

Chair, Cath Botta, said the Board will be looking for a strong leader to guide to corporation into the future.

“Whoever takes the position will steer the corporation through unprecedented regional growth and the impacts of climate change”, Ms Botta said.

“They will also need to continue the organisation’s transformation in new technology to improve the experience of our customers.

“It will be a challenging job to lead 200 people in providing water and sewerage services to 39 towns across north-east Victoria.

“Our team includes treatment specialists, scientists, engineers, accountants, IT professionals, customer service staff and many others.

“We need someone who is versatile enough to guide our people, and effectively engage with our diverse range of stakeholders, customers and communities, to create a positive impact for our region.

Ms Botta added, “We are looking for exceptional candidates, some of whom might be looking to make a move from capital cities.”

“We also know we have a great succession plan within the organisation, which could also lead to several internal applicants.

“I’m confident we’ll find the right person who’ll lead the corporation well into the future and build on the great legacies of Mr Heiner.”

The role is being advertised nationally through the recruitment firm Davidson from 16 August 2021, with the process expected to take two months to complete.
