Wet wipes cause sewer spill in Wodonga
28 May 2021
North East Water staff have cleaned up a small sewage spill caused by tree roots and wet wipes blocking a sewer main in Wodonga.
The spill occurred on Lawrence Street on Friday 28 May 2021 and entered a nearby stormwater system and Jack in the Box Creek.
Executive Operations, John Day, said the Environment Protection Authority has been notified of the spill.
"The blockage has now been rectified, with our operations team also flushing and disinfecting the spill location", Mr Day said.
“We are advising people to avoid the area for several days and abide by nearby signage.”
Mr Day added, “People should remember that only the 3P’s should go down the loo – pee, poo and (toilet) paper.”
“Wet wipes should never be flushed, and cooking fats and grease should also be placed in the bin.”
