Sewage spill cleaned-up in Baranduda
17 November 2020
North East Water staff have cleaned up a sewage spill caused by wet wipes and fats blocking a sewer main in Baranduda.
The spill occurred on John Schubert Drive on Monday 16 November 2020 and was contained to nearby land.
Executive Operations, John Day, said the Environment Protection Authority has been notified of the spill.
"The blockage has now been rectified, with our operations team also disinfecting the spill location", Mr Day said.
“We are advising people to avoid the area for several days and abide by nearby signage.”
Mr Day added, “People should remember that only the 3P’s should go down the loo – pee, poo and (toilet) paper.”
“Wet wipes should never be flushed, and cooking fats and grease should also be placed in the bin.”
