North East Water reappoints Managing Director
20 February 2018
North East Water has announced the reappointment of Craig Heiner as its Managing Director for the next five years.
Following the expiry of the current contract, the position was put to market several months ago and attracted a strong and diverse level of interest from candidates across the nation keen to join a high performing water corporation.
Chair, David McKenzie, said market testing the role of Managing Director is part of a healthy process.
"We want to make sure the Corporation has the best possible leadership for the business as well as the communities we serve", Mr McKenzie said.
"With North East Water in great shape we were very keen to test the ‘where to next’ factor."
Mr McKenzie added, “The Board wanted to select a leader with an eye to enhance the Corporation’s already strong business performance.
"Another central consideration was choosing a person to support our communities in adapting to the challenges of climate change, including North East Water’s own business journey to net zero emissions.
"The Board is highly confident that the search process was extensive and thorough, and are very pleased to have ultimately retained the services of such a high calibre leader."
Craig Heiner joined Kiewa Murray Water in 1991, and following the 1997 amalgamation with Ovens Region Water, has been with North East Water since its inception and its Managing Director for the past 10 years.
Mr Heiner said "I’m proud to have the opportunity to continue to lead such a great team of people as we meet the challenges of ensuring our communities remain resilient long into the future."
