North East Victoria’s summer water use statistics
06 March 2018
Summer water use remained relatively consistent across north-east Victoria compared to the same period last year.
Figures from North East Water show that despite one of the driest February’s on record, the region used much the same amount of water as last summer, with a small rise in Wodonga.
Executive Operations, John Day, said we experienced some spikes back in January.
"On January 19, we saw the season’s biggest water usage day and the highest it’s been since the drought back in 2009”, Mr Day said.
"Customers in Wodonga used 45 million litres and those in Wangaratta used 19 million.
“For the three months of summer, Wodonga used a total of 2350 million litres of water up by 8% on the previous period, while Wangaratta customers used 1095 million litres, down by 1% on 2016-17.
"On the whole, we’re encouraged that people are still very conscious of saving water even though it’s been around ten years since water restrictions were last seen in the North East."
Mr Day added, “We’re likely to have some hot days ahead in March and would like to remind customers that Permanent Water Saving Rules are in place across Victoria."
"The rules include using a trigger nozzle on your hose to water the garden or wash the car, only use watering systems between 6pm and 10am, and don’t hose concrete paths or driveways."
