Heavy storms cause sewage spills in Wangaratta
6 February 2021
North East Water is attending to a number of sewage spills in Wangaratta following heavy storms last night.
Several mains overflowed into One Mile Creek due to storm water infiltrating the sewer network, including main on Vincent Road and also Wilson and Parfitt Roads.
Executive Operations, John Day, said the Environment Protection Authority has been notified of the spills.
“Our staff have inspected each location and have installed barricades and warning signage where necessary”, Mr Day said.
“We will be monitoring and sampling creek water over coming days.
“People are advised to avoid the area around each spill site, as well as water in One Mile Creek for at least several days.”
