Bandiana water main break fixed

North East Water has repaired a major main that was damaged by a contractor in Bandiana earlier today.
The Corporation was able to fix the broken main under reduced pressure, which meant most customers in the area had no interruption to their water supply.
Managing Director, Craig Heiner, said approximately 30 customers had no water during the repair and around 100 experienced reduced pressure including major customers in Homemaker Centre precinct.
“We’re really pleased that our team were able to find a repair solution that reduced the impact on customers.
“Some customers may experience discoloured water following the repair and we would ask them to turn on their taps for a few minutes to help clear the pipes.
“If this doesn’t resolve the issue, they should call our faults line on 1300 361 644.”
“We apologise to customers who were affected by this interruption and thank them for their patience during the repair period.
Mr Heiner added, “Frustratingly, this situation could have been prevented if the contractor had used the Dial Before You Dig service.”
“We have hundreds of kilometres of water and sewer pipes across region and this incident shows that an avoidable mistake can lead to costly repairs, water loses and service interruptions to our customers.
“We would encourage everyone planning to dig in a road reserve, to find out where all services are located before starting any excavation.
