Strong commitment to Reconciliation through Board appointment

17 June 2020

North East Water is proud to announce the appointment of Dhudhuroa man Allan Murray as an independent advisor to the Corporation’s board of directors.

Mr Murray has been recruited for a 12 month period to enable a full cycle of the Board’s annual calendar which will provide exposure to the Corporation’s governance and risk management practices.

North East Water Chair, Cath Botta, said the Corporation is thrilled that Allan is joining the team and is looking forward to his first meeting in July.

“Allan brings a wealth of knowledge to the table through his extensive experience in the construction industry, and the health and education sectors of government”, Ms Botta said.

“He will provide insights regarding matters concerning urban water management and its relationship to the Traditional Owners and Aboriginal community.

“We believe the role will provide a great way for further strengthening Aboriginal relationships, enhancing our cultural awareness and providing broader perspectives in the Corporation’s strategic discussions.

Mr Murray said that he was not only pleased with the appointment, but was honoured to be the first to hold the position at North East Water.

“It will be humbling to be the voice that brings an Aboriginal perspective on corporate strategy, and helps advance relationships with Traditional Owners and the Aboriginal community”, Mr Murray said.

“I look forward to contributing to North East Water, and bringing strong cultural values, skills and experience in assisting the Corporation with Aboriginal co-design and self-determination principals.

“I hope to learn as much as possible during my term, and advancing my skill set to have a long, sustainable role beyond this appoitment.

“In offering this position, North East Water has shown a tangible commitment towards its role in reconciliation, and creates a legacy piece for the Corporation, the Traditional Owners and our wider community.”
