Aboriginal artists invited to submit work for art prize

18 October 2019

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists who connect to the Border and north-east Victoria are being invited to enter an artwork in the upcoming 2019 Local Aboriginal Acquisitional Art Prize.

Three prizes will be offered this year following a partnership between North East Water, the North East Catchment Management Authority and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning.

Manager Customer Engagement, Brad Willis, said following the great success of the first two exhibitions, we want to encourage even more artists to enter.

“The art prize now offers more opportunity for artists, with partner organisations to each select and purchase a piece to put on permanent display, Mr Willis said.

“This year’s theme is ‘water’ and artists can submit visual artwork in any medium.

“We recognise the strong cultural connection that First Nations people have to the land and water within the north east and border.

“This is an opportunity to engage with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, and to showcase the strong creative community that exists in our region.

“We’re excited to be running the art prize again this year and hope that we receive a record amount of entries.”

Artists can find out more information or register their interest in participating at www.newater.com.au/art.

The artworks will be showcased to the general public at the TAFE Space in Wodonga from Monday 18 November to Friday 22 November 2019.
