Wastewater & Reuse

Wastewater treatment and the reuse of recycled water in a variety of applications are core functions at North East Water.

North East Water manages more than 1,000 kilometres of sewer mains across the region. These mains collect household, commercial and industrial waste from more than 38,000 homes, businesses and factories, and transport it to our wastewater treatment plants for treatment.
North East Water treatment plants vary from lagoon-based treatment systems in the small hamlets of Barnawartha and Bundalong, to modern tertiary treatment plants at Wangaratta, Wodonga and Mt Beauty.
North East Water has developed reclaimed water reuse schemes across the region in line with the requirements of the State Environmental Protection Policy (SEPP) Waters of Victoria.
North East Water has a trade waste by-law designed to regulate waste discharge from commercial and industrial premises.
The infrastructure required to collect and treat sewage from the thousands of homes, businesses and industries within our region includes sewer mains and pipes, sewerage pumping stations, wastewater treatment plants and recycled water reuse sites.
