'Water Hero' competition launch

06 Jun 2011

Philippa Lake, Water Hero, will launch North East Water’s ‘Dress as a Water Hero’ competition tomorrow (Tuesday 7 June) at the ABC Wodonga Central childcare centre.

The launch will kick off the Corporation’s newest National Water Week competition, which focuses on children from 0-5 years of age.

Phillippa Lake, aka North East Water Education Officer, Diane Doyle, said she expected a legion of young water heroes to attend the launch, dressed in their water hero costumes.

“This competition is about encouraging our youngest customers to use common water-related household items to dress as a water hero – a fearless water conservation warrior,” she said.

“It is open right now, and I urge all my young water heroes to enter.”

Tomorrow’s launch will involve Phillippa Lake showing the children about the world’s water through the adventures of Whizzy the Water Drop.

“I also want to let the kids know that we can all be water heroes just by doing a few simple things like turning off the tap while brushing their teeth, using a timer in the shower, turning off dripping taps and using the half-flush button on the toilet,” Phillippa said.

Entering the Dress as a Water Hero competition is simple: just help your child (age 0-5) use water-related household items – buckets, shower curtains, hose trigger nozzles, for example – to dress up as a Water Hero, take a photo of them and email it with your details to Diane Doyle: ddoyle@nerwa.vic.gov.au.

The competition closes on 19 August 2011, and judges will select three winners to attend the North East Victoria National Water Week Awards Night in October to collect their prizes.

Tomorrow’s launch will take place at 11am at the ABC Wodonga Central childcare centre, 137 Brockley St, Wodonga.

For more information on the competition, contact Diane on the above email address, or on (02) 6022 580.
