Residents of Milawa, Oxley and Glenrowan are invited to a series of information sessions on proposed wastewater schemes beginning this week.
North East Water will hold the sessions to enable residents to view plans for the schemes and seek any additional information they may require.
The Corporation and the Rural City of Wangaratta have been working to improve wastewater management in the three townships, which currently rely on septic tanks.
North East Water is currently designing the three schemes, which will see the septic tanks replaced with sewer networks and treatment facilities.
The Corporation’s Executive Manager Customer and Financial Services, Anthony Hernan, encouraged residents to attend the information sessions.
“This is an opportunity for the residents of these townships to have a good look at the plans, read the details and ask questions of our staff about the wastewater scheme,” he said.
“We want to ensure people are fully informed about these plans and have had the opportunity to provide feedback.”
The Rural City of Wangaratta identified the three towns as priorities for funding under the Victorian Government’s Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program.
The council identified environmental and public health concerns associated with the towns’ current reliance on septic tanks for wastewater management.
North East Water, as the responsible authority, plans to install sewer networks and treatment facilities that are consistent with current-day standards.
The information sessions will take place as follows:
